'Bring it on Class of 2019,' NYCC Centennial Graduates Receive 175 Degrees 

"Here is the call to action," said Karen Erickson, B.S., D.C, a 1988 graduate of New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), as she addressed the 2019 centennial graduates as their commencement speaker.

"There has never been a greater need for principled, evidence-driven, integrative natural healthcare than right now," continued Dr. Erickson, an integrative healthcare leader whose wisdom has been shared in the New York Times, Oprah Magazine and on The Today Show. "And there has never been a group of healthcare providers more equipped to meet this challenge than every one of you."

On Saturday, Aug. 3, Erickson spoke warmly to the 175 NYCC students who have earned or are on track to earn their diplomas by the end of the year.

Among students receiving their degrees were 26 Doctor of Chiropractic students and 149 students receiving natural healthcare degrees, including: Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Human Anatomy and Physiology Instruction, Applied Clinical Nutrition, Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Anatomy.

To these students, Erickson said, "The level of education you have received at NYCC is unparalleled. I can hardly wait to see what you all accomplish in the next 100 years ... bring it on, Class of 2019." During the ceremony, graduating students received awards for excellence in academics, community service, clinical practice, and leadership.

Opportunity Abounds for NYCC Students

The Doctor of Chiropractic degree at NYCC is earned after 10 trimesters of study (15 weeks each), and includes courses such as biochemistry, gross anatomy, neuroscience, nutrition and business management, as well as extensive hands-on clinical experience and research. Ninety-two percent of D.C. graduates at NYCC secure a position within six months of graduation. At the School of Health Sciences & Education at NYCC, faculty strives to educate the in-demand professionals of tomorrow as the field is estimated to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026.

After the hooding of the candidates and administration of oaths (chiropractic, acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioner and applied clinical nutrition), Bryan Isacks, adjunct assistant professor of the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, gave the Faculty Address. "When in doubt, remember that the hands of your teachers are right there on top of yours and will always, always be there for you. We absolutely are proud of every single one of you."

Transition Ceremony Celebrates 27 Students

Just days before commencement, twenty-seventy students from the graduating class of spring 2020 were honored at the Transition Ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 1. Among them, many were also recognized for academic and clinical excellence, as well as service to the College. President Dr. Michael Mestan presented students with the Distinguished Service Awards and presented the Kenneth W. Padgett and Standard Process scholarships
