NYCC Announces Poirier as New Assistant Vice President, Burke as Dean
New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of two current members of the administration to newly created positions: Dr. Jean-Nicolas Poirier is the new assistant vice president of academic affairs, and Dr. Jeanmarie Burke is the new dean of faculty and research.
Dr. Jean-Nicolas Poirier earned a D.E.C. in natural sciences from Collège Maisonneuve (Montréal, Québec), a doctor of chiropractic from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières ( Trois-Rivières, Québec), and an Ed.D. in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College (Rochester, N.Y.). He also holds certification as a chiropractic sports practitioner and is a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology. As well, Poirier has served the Council on Chiropractic Education since 2014, acting as associate chair from 2018 to 2020 and elected to the position of chair from 2020-2022.
Poirier joined NYCC in 2008 as an assistant professor and program director of the Master of Science in Diagnostic Imaging (MSDI) program, and has also held positions including dean of academic programs and services and, most recently, dean of the School of Health Sciences & Education and director of Academic Services.
In his new role as assistant vice president of academic affairs (AVPAA), Poirier will focus on the doctor of chiropractic program's daily operations, including program assessment, CCE accreditation, student interactions and the development of a new and innovative chiropractic program.
Dr. Jeanmarie Burke earned an M.S. in physical education with motor control emphasis and a Ph.D. in human performance, with a neurobiology minor, from Indiana University (Bloomington, IN). She has served NYCC in several leadership positions since joining the College as an associate professor in 1998. She became head of the Research Department in 2004, and in 2009 was made dean of research and basic sciences. Most recently Burke has held additional roles including interim dean of chiropractic and interim director of the acupuncture and Oriental medicine programs.
In her new role, Burke will work one-on-one with NYCC's D.C. faculty on workload, schedules, professional development, faculty evaluation and providing assistance through the promotion process.
Together these two new positions will partner closely to build upon the College's historic foundation of excellence in health sciences. The new AVPAA and dean will work to focus College resources to streamline processes; enhance planning, assessment and innovation in our current programs; and provide a foundation for future growth.
