Northeast College Faculty, Students Visit U.S. Capitol, Receive Leadership Awards at ACA Annual Conference
Working together to advocate for the chiropractic profession and the future of healthcare, Northeast College of Health Sciences students, faculty, administrators and alumni attended the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) Engage 2024 annual conference on January 24-27, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
With financial support from the College and its community members, including alumni and corporate partners, 28 students from Northeast College attended the ACA event for cutting-edge education, networking and leadership development opportunities.

A highlight of the event, Chiropractic’s Day on Capitol Hill, allows conference attendees to visit congressional offices and affirm the importance of the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act (H.R. 1610/S. 799), thank key leaders for their support and educate others on the benefits of many chiropractic services.
Northeast students were joined by faculty and administrators including College President Dr. Michael Mestan, Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement Dr. Todd Knudsen, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Jean-Nicolas Poirier, Professor Dr. Bill Lauretti, Professor Dr. Gerald Stevens, Instructor Dr. Laura Passamonte and Chancellor Dr. Kenneth Padgett, who presided over the 86th annual meeting of the International College of Chiropractors.
Longtime Northeast Professor Receives Prestigious Award
At the event, Dr. Bill Lauretti was honored with the American Chiropractic Association Academician of the Year Award, awarded to just one outstanding chiropractic faculty member each year in recognition of their “dedication to advancing the chiropractic profession through academic and educational excellence.” Lauretti, a professor at the College for 18 years, leads a course in chiropractic technique and has developed courses on coding, documentation, patient education and practice management, and the law.
“Our congratulations go out to Dr. Bill Lauretti for this well-deserved recognition. His passion for chiropractic education and advocacy has made a lasting impact on both students and the profession. We see this every day at Northeast College,” said College President Dr. Michael Mestan. “We’re so proud of Dr. Lauretti’s outstanding accomplishments, and of all of our renowned faculty and students for continuously elevating Northeast College in the chiropractic community.”
Tradition of Northeast Student Leadership Continues
In addition to the excellence of Northeast faculty being recognized, Northeast’s chiropractic students also have a long history of leadership. In fact, seven of the last 11 national chairs of the Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) have come from the College. At Engage 2024, it was clear that tradition will continue with the leadership of Brooke Green (D.C. ’24), elected as new SACA national chair, and Lauren Williams (D.C. ’24), named national vice chair. Green also received the Standard Process Scholarship and Alexandria Aruck (D.C. ’24) received the American Chiropractic Foundation Scholarship.
