Northeast College Impacts Local Economy, Contributes Over $44 Million, Supports 400 Jobs
Northeast College of Health Sciences has a significant impact on the economic health of its communities, including the Finger Lakes and New York state regions. According to the biennial economic impact study by The Commission on Independent Colleges & Universities in New York (CICU), Northeast College contributed $44.4 million to the local and state economy in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
Northeast College’s total economic impact is the sum of several factors. The institution impact of the College accounts for $38.7 million, including spending on research, construction, instruction, technology, salaries and other operating expenses. Student and visitor impact, money spent by students and campus visitors, accounting for $5.3 million of the College’s economic impact on the Finger Lakes and New York state regions.
With the Fall 2024 opening of Northeast College’s new branch Long Island Campus, as well as kick-off of new undergraduate and certificate degree programs, the College looks forward to seeing its overall economic impact continue to grow throughout New York state.
Northeast Supports 400 Jobs, Dedicated Faculty and Staff
From 2022-2023, Northeast College also supported 400 jobs, including 200 on campus, with a combined payroll of $16.6 million. Faculty administrators and support service professionals work side-by-side to support the missions of New York’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.
Finger Lakes and N.Y. State Regions: Learning Destination
There are 15 independent colleges and universities in the Finger Lakes region and collectively they enroll 41,000 students and award more than 11 thousand degrees each year. Combined these institutions have a total economic impact of $6.3 billion to the region.
The independent sector of higher education supported 18,000 direct campus jobs throughout the Finger Lakes region in fiscal year 2022-23, including faculty, staff and graduate assistant positions.
New York State’s independent sector is the largest in the country. Private nonprofit colleges and universities in New York enroll 44 percent of the 1.1 million students in postsecondary education in the state and award 60 percent of the bachelor’s and graduate degrees earned by these students.
