Northeast College Hosts Inaugural Showcase & Community Expo at Seneca Falls Campus
Northeast College of Health Sciences brought the vibrant community of the Finger Lakes region together for its inaugural Showcase & Community Expo on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, welcoming nearly 60 vendors, among dozens of other attendees, including high school students and college classes to its Seneca Falls Campus.
The special event, building on the popularity of the College’s annual Community Day, brought local businesses, leaders and organizations together with Northeast students, faculty, and staff for a day to meet, connect and discover all that the Finger Lakes offers.
Northeast College invited the public to the event and included opportunities to learn about the latest in health and wellness, take campus tours, meet expert faculty and staff and learn about the College’s many health sciences programs educating future healthcare professionals.
Lifelong Learning: #NortheastBlue Experts Present Health & Wellness Showcase Spotlights
In addition to the staff and faculty participating in the Showcase to meet and network with other community members, many of Northeast’s expert leaders participated in Showcase Spotlights, mini seminars and interactive sessions, highlighting the latest topics in health and wellness.
Professor Dr. Bill Lauretti, Principle of Healthcare Practice
From Columbia Institute to New York Chiropractic College, and now Northeast College of Health Sciences. Manhattan to Long Island and Seneca Falls, well how did we get there? Dr. Lauretti presented An Oral History of Northeast College, as well as an exploration of the evolution of chiropractic techniques from their origins in the late 19th century to modern day practices during the session Where did Chiropractic Come from? A History of Chiropractic Technique.
Clinical Coordinator and Imaging Science Instructor Erica Colella
What is radiology? What technologies are used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases? Guests who attended the presentation X-rays, Mammograms and More: What are They and Why They Matter, learned more about these exams, what they’re used for and how they’re interpreted by doctors.
Associate Professor Dr. Jeana Voorhies (D.C. ‘01)
Chiropractic is an important part of the healthcare of kids of all ages and for a variety of reasons, which Dr. Jeana Voorhies discussed in her presentation Keeping Kids Healthy and Strong with Chiropractic. She talked about how chiropractic has been proven to be safe and effective for children, ensuring proper biomechanics to support the developing musculoskeletal system.
Dean of Online Education and Assistant Professor Dr. Peter Nickless
In the nutrition lecture Power up with Protein, Dr. Nickless discussed why protein is important for growth and development and explored simple fun ways to add protein to everyday meals and snacks. The session ended with a hands-on demonstration of how to make a quick, delicious, and protein-packed snack that kids love.
Owner of White Oak Nursery, Jame Engel – Canandaigua, N.Y.
During this session, participants explored the benefits of the reforestation happening on the Northeast College campus. Engel discussed how native species are important to our local ecosystem, the benefits of promoting native pollinators and how the trees that were planted on campus were propagated. A tour of Northeast College’s Forest-in-Progress on campus followed the presentation.
Northeast College Community Expo and Campus Tours
Guests were able to meet the people behind their favorite businesses and talk with local employees who work at the places they frequent or have always wanted to visit. Innovative products and services were on display, samples were offered, and free swag was given away as the community spent time mingling and getting to know more about the people and places that make the Finger Lakes such a great place to live and learn.
The 286-acre Seneca Falls Campus was open for tours and allowed guests to visit Northeast College’s state-of-the-art facilities such as the Computerized Anatomy Resource Lab (CARL) with interactive 3D virtual Anatomage tables, cutting-edge imaging sciences suites and the human anatomy and cadaveric dissection lab.
Northeast College was pleased to see so many community members come out to connect, engage and learn more about each other and our Finger Lakes region, and is eager to make the Showcase & Community Expo an annual event.
