Alumni Weekend 2023 Celebrates Lifelong Learning, Honors Northeast Community
Northeast College of Health Sciences welcomed more than 200 participants for Alumni Weekend 2023, Oct. 6-8. The three-day event dedicated to leadership, learning and networking brought attendees to campus from across the United States, representing 14 states from New York to California, Canada and as far away as South Korea.
Three concurrent tracks of courses with eighteen presentations provided the opportunity for Alumni Weekend participants to earn up to 14 hours of continuing education credit either on campus or via webinar. Healthcare experts in chiropractic, acupuncture and nutrition, including many Northeast alumni and faculty, presented lectures on diverse topics, from the latest on chiropractic sports medicine and nutrition, to exercise and women’s health and risk management and ethics.
Special events throughout the weekend included a healthcare industry Exhibitor Fair, alumni cocktail mixer and the first President’s Fundraiser Gala. Course highlights included keynote speaker Christine Foss (D.C. ‘94), presenting Homeostasis and Adaptations for Success in Treating High Performance Athletes, and presentations held in new lab spaces on campus to utilize the latest technology available in chiropractic education.
Lectures were combined with digital anatomy in the College’s Computerized Anatomy Resource Lab (aka The CARL), as well as cadaver dissection in the Anatomy Center. Chiropractic rehab demonstrations were provided in the Force Assessment Simulation Technology (FAST) Lab, during the presentation “Enhancing Precision and Speed Through Force Plate Feedback,” presented by Northeast Associate Professor Brett Carnevale (D.C.’09, M.S. ‘16).
“I’m pleased to say that Alumni Weekend 2023 was a huge success. It was rewarding to see so many Northeast alumni back on campus, reconnecting and sharing stories about how they are contributing to their communities,” Dr. Mestan said. “It was also a pleasure to offer cutting-edge continuing education opportunities and show our community all of the latest developments at Northeast, including our two new labs on campus.”
